Memorial Day

A little clarification here.

Memorial Day, which is celebrated on the last Monday in May, honors those who gave their lives in the service of the United States.

Veteran"s Day is celebrated on November 11 and honors those that served the United States in uniform.

It is a testament to the ignorance of the last several generations of Americans that I have to point this out. But with public schools and so few Americans choosing to serve, it seems that I do have to explain a few things. I know. Many of you think I may be splitting hairs and maybe I am. But when the Commander-in-Chief tells Americans to honor Memorial Day by sending care packages to soldiers overseas, I know that we have a Commander-in-Chief that never served a day in uniform and that this post is necessary.

By all means, honor veterans. Thank someone for their service. Send care packages to soldiers. Hell, send money to soldiers and their families. Americans should be doing this everyday. But this day.

We have set aside one day, this day, to honor those who gave their lives in service to the United States. How do we do that? Go to a military cemetery, attend a parade, send money to the families of fallen heroes. Their are dozens of ways. But remember, Memorial Day is the day to honor the dead.

Honor the living everyday.
